Asthma – a chronic disorder involving the respiratory system which causes difficulties in breathing. Asthma is triggered by certain types of allergens, environmental tobacco smoke and cold and hot air. Rising temperatures also participate in worsening Asthma.
A new research review reports, global warming poses a big threat to asthma and allergy patients. The September’s edition of the ‘Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology’, publishes the review which contains these predictions.
Predictions made by the review:
Prominent conditions for Asthma:
- Rising air pollution
- Increasing ozone
- Devastating wildfires which worsen the air quality
Seasons for Allergy conditions:
- A warm weather – blooms in spring and season for fall allergens like ragweed and mugwort
- According to the review, more warmth represents more plants and more pollen
In July, Environmental Protection Agency’s report included Asthma on a list of possible and predictable health risks from global warming. Scientists recommended that doctors make the patients aware of finding daily air quality reports and pollen counts.
“We are in a great and desperate need of champions who will work to put forward the issue of protecting human health at the center stage of the global warming agenda,” says, one of the reviewers of the report.
The reviewers also signified the context of biking, walking, using public transportation. They made it clear that eating locally grown fruits and vegetables, and eating less meat are the best ways to protect your health as well the environment.
