Green Alert In United States

Posted on July 26, 2008 in Latest News

Might  as expected, America is getting warning bells from environmental organizations to regulate the high level of heat-trapping gases which are causing climate change. Environmental Protection Agency sent a document to the U.S administration and asked to keep a strong hold on greenhouse gas emissions.

Sen.Barbara Boxer, D-Calif,said about the document on 25th July after she reviewed the finding. The document has not been made public.

The Document Says:
“The head of the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) warned the Bush administration in December that high concentrations of man-made heat-trapping gases or green house gases are causing global warming and endanger the American population”, said Sen. Boxer.

The 38-page document says Administrator of EPA, Stephen Johnson believes there is a strong evidence that the rising average global temperature that has been observed in recent years is due to increasing man-made heat-trapping or greenhouse gas emissions.

Importance of the Document:
The document is most important because the U.S Supreme Court ruled in April, 2007 that if the EPA head finds greenhouse gases or heat-trapping gases endanger the people, then the government should regulate them.

It Belongs In the Americans’ Hands:
Boxer, who took notes on the document and shared them with correspondents, continued, “these are  the strongest words I and even you have ever seen, and they are trying to lock this away. The document belongs in the hands of the American public.” She called for this document’s publication, saying it represented the agency’s most prominent work in many years.

In Last December:
The administrator of EPA sent the proposed finding to White House in December through an e-mail, but the White House officials declined to open and reveal. White House officials ensured that it would not have to be made public. The White House is not ready to respond for comment about why the document was not made public.

Effects of Greenhouse Gas Emissions:
Increasing amount of greenhouse gases can cost huge for developed countries. The greenhouse or heat-trapping gases accumulate in the atmosphere and remain there for many years and even decades. This gives rise to the climate change which can cause engulfment of coastal regions by oceans where millions live. It can also cause storms and fires.
