The accelerating vortex of winds from the Antarctic that spins over 100 mile an hour is pulling climate bands southward and dragging away the rain from Australia into the Southern Ocean. Scientists have found that Global warming and loss of ozone layer over Antarctica is the possible reason for this.
The Antarctic vortex has resulted in the drought that Australia faced in the year 2002-03. This was regarded as the worst drought that Australia faced in the last 100 years. Scientists fear that this long-standing drought is a foretaste of a more extensive and permanent drought that risks Australia.
