Mankind is killing themselves with the slow poison of Global Warming. Every milligram of Carbon-di-oxide emitted in the atmosphere is slowly moving the earth towards damage that cannot be repaired.
Under these circumstances, what is your responsibility? What can you do to fight Global Warming and save the earth? No you got to be no superman. You can make a huge difference with these small measures –
Choose a fuel efficient vehicle – Many of us tend to chose vehicles that look aesthetically appealing. We give little thought to what is called ‘fuel efficiency’. Most of us have enough money to get our vehicle a daily fill at the gas station. Then why think of fuel efficiency? Checking the fuel economy performance of your car is important if you wish to fight Global Warming. A vehicle travels 20 miles in one gallon will emit around 50 tons of Carbon dioxide in its entire lifetime. While a vehicle that travels 40 miles in one gallon will emit half the amount of Carbon dioxide. Such a vehicle would also save you roughly $3000 over its lifetime.
Take care of your Vehicle – Make sure your car’s engine is tuned up and all your tires are properly inflated. These will help fuel efficiency. Regular tuning of your engine will give you up to 4-40% more miles per gallon. Also change your air filter time to time. A new air filter boosts your fuel efficiency up to 10%.
Avoid Driving for Errands – Most of us chose to drive to the grocery store that lies just one mile away from your home. Its good to avoid driving whenever you can. You will end up saving money and reduce the emission of Carbon dioxide. The additional advantage would be – choosing alternatives like cycling, walking etc to do your errands will keep you fit and healthy.
Use Compact Fluorescent bulbs – It’s a good idea to buy the Compact Fluorescent Bulbs even though they are a bit heavy on your pocket compared to your incandescent bulbs. But spending a few extra bucks is all worth because the CFL bulbs help you keep half a ton of Carbon dioxide out of air. What more they will save you $60 in the course of their lifetime.
Avoid Burning fuels as much as you can – This may mean that you will have to chose other options than coal while you plan your Barbecue Brunch or your Camp Fires.
Remember, even the smallest of contributions towards saving the earth from the hazards of Global Warming can go a long way. Keep up the effort!
